Mini Pizza Recipe

Mini Pizza
Hi everyone, I'm on a weight loosing spree....I have resolved to loose 12 kg of weight. I have started doing yoga(surya namaskar) and exercise on a regular basis and diet moderation. This is a simple, quick, tasty recipe that is equally healthy. This is my solution for odd-hour hunger.

I used multi-grain bread on which you could put vegetable of your choice (i have added onion tomato capsicum)and I have added lil shredded cheese topped it with pepper-salt, basil, oregano..any-other  herb of your choice. I have also added pasta sauce (red sauce) on top of it. You could just apply it on the bread in the beginning.

If you have any other quick healthy recipes let me know...

Gulab Jamun Recipe

Hey people i was encouraged by my husband to do this post. He has a sweet tooth and (High BP) too...he is an IT professional. My hubby loves this thing and always orders up 2 plates of gulab jamun, so i thought why not make it at home. Besides we spend so much money to eat out, so thought i could save some money on that and spend on shopping...yippeee.....Also my MIL always sends homemade ghee which i use only for tadka..I'm gonna make some serious sweets...

Ingredients for gulab jamun :

Non sweetened Khoya= 2 cups

Maida= 5 tbs

Cardamom (elaichi) powder = a big pinch

Baking soda = 1 pinch

Water = 1/2 cup

Ingredients for sugar syrup :

Sugar = 1 Kg ( add 1 cup extra if you want the syrup to be sweeter i like mine with less sweet)

Water = 1 liter

Rose essence or cardamom powder can be used to flavor the sugar syrup.

How to : I have added in a step by step pic

Make a very loose dough of the ingredients listed under gulab jamun dough
Take sugar and add equal amount of water to it
Heat the sugar syrup for about 5-6 mins
I have taken Kishmish, you could also use stuff inside the jamuns..
Like this you have to stuff it inside
Now make small balls of the dough..
sugar syrup is also ready....
Add the fried gulab jamuns immediately into the sugar syrup
There you go..its all yours to eat......
P.S :
  1. The sugar syrup attains the consistency in the first 5-6 mins.if you keep heating it again the syrup becomes watery.
  2. The dough should be very loose and soft.don't knead it like you would do atta for roti..
  3. Use a wide container to make the syrup so that there is lot of space for your jamuns to soak.

**Weekend Haul**

BATA ballerinas and Khadi soaps

 Hi guys,I'm back with my weekend haul, nothing much though. I have been dying to try the Khadi products for such a long time. Luckily we spotted a khadi store in Chennai near Spencer plaza. My hubby also like khadi as mos of the products are directly from the people who make it. There is a wide variety of products that are available there. The mat that you see on the background is actually my new yoga mat that i got for Rs140. I also got 2 sitting mats for 40 each...YAY.....
Sample soaps

 I was not sure which soap i wanted to try-on. So got this for about 65 bucks. I got Strawberry, neem-tulsi, green-apple, rose-water, lavender and lemon. I have started using the strawberry wala soap,,but doesn't at all smell like strawberry.....I haven't used the other soaps...
Jasmine-cheese soap with VIT E
 I thought this was a soap meant for the body but turned out to be a conditioner for the hair. This one smells nice. I'm using this soap after i wash my hair with a shampoo...My hair becomes super dry after i use this and i don't think i'm gonna buy it again.This was for about Rs 65 or 68..not sure

Vintage payal
 I have been wanting a payal for a really long time, the one which has ornate designs on it. Something that I could wear for the festive season... i bought this from khadi store....,,,, yeah they do have a separate jewellery section and the have some of the amazing kada collection that i have seen lately..I'm gonna buy them next...Btw this payal is for Rs3200 it is exchangeable for half the price...yippe. The reason it is expensive is coz of the red and green stones.

up close
Hey ...,,,let me know what you think of the haul....

What the product claims & Key ingredients : Foundation make-up in a powder format- gives a flawless radiant look ( took this form the website).Contains rose fragrance to keep you fresh, contains sunscreen to protect from harmful   UV rays. Gives a flawless radiant look. Well it gives a whole lot of chemical names of stuff added to make this product which i find too lazy to type it down...

Malabar Egg Curry Receipe

Its so good to be back...My hubby accidently (claims) broke the adapter for my lappy. I'm writing this post from my hubby laptop.

This below recipe is very yummy but needs patience to prepare the coconut milk. This gravy type can be used to make panner, soya chunks etc..,,use your imagination...

Ingredients :

Eggs = 3 bolied,shelled and cut in half
Onion = 2 thinly sliced
Thick coconut milk = 1 cup
Thin coconut milk = 1 cup
Ginger-garlic paste = 1 tbs
Red chillie powder = 1 tsp
Turmeric powder = 1 tsp
Corriander powder = 1 tsp
Garam masala = 1 tsp
Salt = as per taste
Freshly chopped corriander for garnish

For Tempering :

Mustard seeds = 1/4 tsp
Jeera = 1/4 tsp
Curry Leaves = lil
Oil = 2 tsp

Before we start the preparation, just wanted to let you know how to prepare thick and thin coconut milk. For coconut milk, we grind the coconut pieces(1 coconut) in 1/4 cup of water and strain it. This milk will be thick and is called  the thick coconut milk. Again grind the coconut with 1/2 cup of water,,this one will be comparatively thinner in consistency, hence thin coconut milk.....If you are to lazy to go through all this then just buy the ready made coconut milk and dilute it.

How to :
  • Heat oil in a kadai, add the ingredients given in temper.
  • Add onion, pinch of salt and saute it till golden brown.
  • To this add the giner garlic paste ad saute till you get rid of the raw smell.
  • Add chille powder, coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric powder.
  • Quickly add thin coconut milk and reduce the flame. Bring it to boil and let it cook for about 3-4 mins.
  • While in low flame, add thick coconut milk and the eggs and salt.
  • Let it be there for about another minute add chopped green coriander.
P.S. : To get the authentic kerala(malabar) feel you could temper it with cooking coconut oil(not parachute).

VLCC Kajal Review

When we think of make-up...we think of eyes and lips. To define the eyes there is nothing better and effective as kajal...Since childhood we have been using it .,,,it is marked on newborn babies (nazar) to ward of evil...My mom used to use shringar and eyetex kajal as those were popular during their times...

Sometimes we also used to make it at home,,,...I'm sure all of us know it by now.  The first kajal that I purchased was of Himalaya..its nice but smudges..So thought of buying VLCC i read in some blog that it is MATT. So got it, even though my himalaya kajal is still only half-empty.....

VLCC Kajal
Matt Blaccckk Kajal
Swatched on my hand

Price : Rs 135

Net Weight : 2.5 gm

Shelf life : 2 yrs

What the product claims & Key ingredients : A unique formulation that does not smudge, smear or fade after application. The goodness of natural oils and herbal extract nourish and relax the eyes. Triphala helps in maintaining good vision. Contains Triphala, Liquorice extracts, Camphor and Almond oil.

Directions to use : Apply on the waterline, for a smokey effect you could smudge it a lil...

Availability : It is not available in Malls, as far as I know. You could get it in your local cosmetic store though.

My experience :
  • This Kajal comes in a tube form, so no need to dip in your fingers into the kajal as is the case in shringar/eyetex..(hygiene point of view)
  • Both Himalaya & Vlcc kajals have the same packaging.
  • When it comes to smudging VlCC does a good job of not doing it(smudging)..hehe
  • It is quite black, and stays for a good 5 hrs without touch-ups..
  • However it is not as smooth as i would like it to be.
  • Decently priced

Repurchase : Hmm Yes...till I get THE perfect is on...lets see...

Home Cleaning Tips for Diwali

  1. Instead of using the cleaners available in your local dept store like the lizol, mr.mucles etc..They contain such hazardous stuff in them,,so instead of using those you can switch to a much cheaper and safer call purpose cleaner = White wine vinegar. Yes people you heard it right you just need this amazing stuff to keep your home sparkly clean.
  2. Always use hand gloves before you start doing your chores.. I use the Scotch Brite gloves they cost less than Rs 100.
  3. If you use soap to take bath / shower, when they become very small after usage and you don't want to use it. Keep storing those soap bits and put it into a old socks and tie it with a fancy ribbon. You could use this by dipping into water,,,......if you want to clean some stubborn dirty shelf , fan etc..these are very effective and they are soft on your skin unless you use rin shakti to take shower...hehehehe..
  4. Cleaning the fridge with the half a lemon dipped in vinegar..,,, really works. It leaves a very lemony smell.................mmmm clean...
  5. To clean the mirrors and glass surfaces in the house. Instead of using Kollen (remember the T.V commercial funny huh ), you could use piece of newspaper and fold it several times & dust the surface that needs to be cleaned with Vibhuti (greyish ash) that is offered in the temple.  Clean the surface and you got yourself a brand new mirror.
  Let me know if these tips worked for you., and also if you have any other new tips....

    French Toast Receipe

    Who doesn't like All american breakfast...To truly enjoy the brunch, you need home made jam(marmalade) , the which I will post the recipe some time later. And some green tea (i'm health conscious), some scones ( i don't know how to make them :-) ). Some scram-belled eggs, brown bread toast (crispier the better), Freshly squeezed orange juice....

    Wouldn't it be lovely if the husband/boyfriend did this for you once in a while??????

    Ingredients :

    Plain white bread (maida bread) = 4 thick slices.
    Egg = 2 eggs
    Cinnamon powder = 1-2 pinch
    Sugar (powdered sugar)= 2 tbs
    Milk/curd/ fresh cream = 1/2 cup
    Butter(amul) = 2-3 tbs

    How to :

    • Before we begin to make the recipe, please make sure that the bread is thick at-least 1/2 inch, so that it doesn't break while in the process of cooking.
    • In a bowl firstly, beat the two eggs to a  nice consistency...add a pinch of cinnamon powder and whisk it again.
    •  Add sugar and whisk it again, finally add (Milk/curd/ fresh cream) any one of these and whisk it nice and good..
    • Take girdle/flat pan, drizzle butter on the pan....dip the bread in the egg mix...adjust the suagr as per your taste....
    • Place the soaked bread on to the pan and wait for it to cook for some time.
    • With the help of a spatula, turn over the bread and cook for some more time.
    • Serve it by drizzling honey on top it.
    I personally like it with curd becoz it gives it a sweet n sour taste...Try it out and let me know if you like it....Its super easy and tastes heavenly

    Tips to cook faster for Working women

    I'm housewifing right now, but when I was working in Bangalore I used to cook breakfast and lunch in the morning before going to office. And when i say breakfast it was not cornflakes or bread butter jam,,,proper nashta....These are the things that I learned over to period of 2 yrs that helps me to cook fast and not slog in the kitchen.

    1. When you buy your vegetables, try to clean and store them individually in tupperware boxes (freezer mate).
    2. Store those tupperware boxes on top in which the vegetables are more perishable than the others.
    3. I have bought green chille box & onion box from Tupperware, the shape of the boxes resemble the vegetable....its super cute.........
    4. For the next days cooking, I usually after dinner time while watching TV...peel the required onion, garlic, chop the tomatoes,  chop the vegetables and clean the green leafy its easier to cook...saves a lot time..believe me...
    5. If I have guest coming over for lunch/ dinner.. i make a paste of onion & tomato, ginger-garlic paste, tamarind pulp not juice, green chille paste..If I'm making non-veg i steam the onion till they are transparent and make a paste out of it.....
    6. Buy badam, kaju, kismish, pista etc and fry them a lil to remove any moisture left and store them in air-tight containers...You can just eat them always,,and use it as garnish to some turn some dull boring khana to a delicacy.

    Caramel Kheer Recipe

    The easiest sweet dish recipe ever and tastes gorgeous.............Go put on your aprons........

    Basmati rice = 1/4 cup
    Sugar = 1 cup

    Chopped dry fruits of your choice

    How to :
    • Clean, wash and soak the basmati rice for about 15 mins in water.
    • Heat a empty pressure pan without lid to a very hot temperature.
    • Then add about 2 tbs of sugar, wait till it caramelizes. This will provide the color to the kheer.
    • When the sugar has become really dark brown, add 1/4 cup of hot water. Make sure you do that carefully becoz the pan will be very HOT.
    • Add the milk & the soaked basmati rice. When the milk boils close the cooker with the weight, and reduce the flame.
    • Cook this way for about 20-25 mins. Turn of the stove.
    • Open the cooker after the pressure leaves the stove & add sugar and mix well.
    • Cook for 2 mins without the lid
